This week, we will be featuring the life story of a Non-Uniformed Personnel who at a young age lost her husband to death. Her struggles as a single mom and carrying the burden of the family singlehandedly.

“I grew up in a large family, we are eight siblings. Our home is filled with happy chaos and I was used to the banter and disarray”.

“My father was a retired policeman and my mother is a school principal in Moalboal Central Elementry School. Though my parents were employed we struggled in our day-to day living, the salary of our parents are not enough for all of us because we are many in the family and the salary of a police officer back then was meager”.

NUP Michelle Sacnanas Macasaol, was used to the strict manner of disciplining from her father. As a school girl she was studious due to the fact that her mother was a principal.

Her father was the law, and they have to follow him or else they will be spanked. Every decision they have, has to go through her father.

NUP Macasaol was an A student, she graduated valedictorian in elementary and with honors in high school.

Did you know that NUP Macasaol belonged to the pioneering class of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in Cebu Technological University-Moalbal Campus? You heard it right, and she has also acquired Latin honors during graduation. In college, she met her friend Grace Carvajal who accompanied her in school, projects and during meal times.

NUP Michelle Sacananas Macasaol graduated Cum Laude in 2009, a proof of her dedication and tenacity as a student.

She met her husband through text in college, during the time they were yet unclear with their relationship because she was afraid of her father.

“After graduation, I briefly worked in Mitsumi for four months but eventually left due to the distance from home. Originally, I applied as an Industrial Engineer, I lined up along with the others not knowing that I was lining up for the position of production workers. I was forced to accept the job due to the fact that I don’t want to go home if I’m not employed”.

She got married in 2010 and they were blessed with two children.

“Then I applied in the PNP back in 2014, we were done with our application in July 2014 but was only accepted in February 26, 2015. I was a part of the mass hiring of Non-Uniformed Personnel to complement the position of Crime Registrars”.

For 8 years and 5 months, NUP Macasaol has worked in Moaboal Police Station alongside her counterparts in the PNP, she has dedicated herself to her craft and meticulously recorded crimes to the Next Generation Investigation System.

In 2018, she lost her father to cancer, they had to make loans in order to save her father. But sadly, they lost him. According to her, she has no regrets, after all she did it all for her family.

NUP Macasaol's husband worked as freelance carpenter and electrician. Unfortunately, he figured in an accident which resulted to his death in February 18, 2023. At 35, she became a widow.

Now, she singlehandedly carried her family alone. There are times that cries but according to her she wipes her tears and carry on living with her two sons.

She has friends and family who comforts her and has become her strength when she has bouts of loneliness and difficulties.

Despite losing her husband, NUP Michelle Sacnanas Macasaol remains standing. Braving life’s challenges. Paduyon lang, Mabuhi ka!
